Carlos Burle is one of Brazil's big wave pioneers, and he was at the centre of one of the most dramatic days in Nazaré's history. On 28 October 2013 the St Jude storm sent giant waves into Praia do Norte. Burle was driving the jet ski for Maya Gabeira when she fell and was held under. He got her to the beach unconscious, where she was revived.
Then he went back out. Later that day he rode a wave that some people called close to 100 feet. It was never measured or ratified, but coming just hours after the rescue, it made headlines around the world.

One email when giant waves (10 m+) show up in the models, usually 5 to 7 days ahead.
