Sent McNamara the photo that started it
Every story about Nazaré's giant waves goes back to Dino Casimiro. He was born and grew up in Nazaré, bodyboarded Praia do Norte with his friends, and in 2002 helped found the town's alternative sports club.
In 2005 he found Garrett McNamara's website and emailed him a photo of a giant wave by the lighthouse. McNamara wrote back. For years Dino kept sending photos and swell reports, until the Hawaiian finally came in 2010 for a project called The North Canyon. A year later McNamara's record wave made Nazaré famous around the world.
Most of what you'll find on this site started with that one email.
Dino on how he brought Garrett McNamara, and the world, to Nazaré.
One email when giant waves (10 m+) show up in the models, usually 5 to 7 days ahead.
