Their story

Pedro "Scooby" Vianna is the surfer in what may be the most-watched clip ever filmed at Nazaré. On 28 February 2017 he was racing down a giant wave when he fell near the end, right in the danger zone. Lucas Chianca came in on a jet ski to get him, the next wave caught them both, and veteran Everaldo "Pato" Teixeira had to come in on a second ski to pull them out.

A drone filmed all of it. The Portuguese team Máquina Voadora cut it into a short film, The Big Ugly, which won the News and Documentary award at the 2017 Los Angeles Drone Film Festival.

Scooby kept coming back. He won the Most Committed award at the WSL tow contest in December 2021, and the team title with Chianca in January 2024.
