If one surfer owns the Nazaré contest, it's Lucas Chianca, known to everyone as Chumbo. He won the paddle-in Nazaré Challenge in February 2018 at just 22. At the tow contest he has taken the men's top award four times: December 2021, February 2022, January 2024 and December 2025. Add four team titles, the first with Kai Lenny in 2020, and he has won something at almost every edition.
He rides Nazaré differently from most. Instead of just surviving the giant faces, he turns hard and stays close to the part of the wave that's breaking. That's how he wins, and it's also why he has taken some of the heaviest wipeouts seen there.
His wave on 13 Dec 2025, the day he won the men's title.
One email when giant waves (10 m+) show up in the models, usually 5 to 7 days ahead.
